Shortly before students rushed off campus for spring break last week, Ravens Respect Life (RRL) hosted a movie night in Westerman Auditorium featuring “Bella.”
The evening of March 3, a small group of students gathered to watch the movie centered around Nina, a young woman who finds hope and support in the midst of financial struggles and an unplanned pregnancy and a man, Jose, who has spent years trying to move on from the darkest moment of his life.
“Bella is a beautiful, moving, heartwarming movie that shows the beauty and importance of loving hospitality,” Cecilia Worden, RRl’s Supportive Services Officer and sophomore Theology and math major, said.
Worden highlighted how Nina, the woman in the story, decided to choose life based on the support she received from Jose.
“It shows how far Christian Charity goes when we take the time to stop and listen to our neighbor, to be truly present to them and help them to the extent that we are able. A day of agape-selfless love- led to the saving of Bella’s beautiful life,” Worden said.
In the end Nina chooses life for her baby after the support and love she received from Jose and his family when no one else was around to lift her up.
Worden said this should be a model for anyone in the pro-life movement and is a guiding principle of BC’s RRL club.
“As the pro-life club on BC’s campus it is important that we remember the goal of our mission is love,” she said. “If we want to save babies, we need to start by loving the mother. That mother herself is of unfathomable value to God. If our mission is not grounded in love for God and neighbor, then we are clearly doing something. Having this movie night was meant to be a good reminder of that and how much agape can do.”
