Benedictine students are racing to their classes, backpacks spilling with color as a reminder to slow down and relax from a stressful college life and enjoy the experience.
With all the craziness of the 21st century trying to do everything at once, we tend to miss the beauty in the world.
Olivia Glover is a junior art student that heals others with the powers of expression and feeling.
Glover says “the reason why creating art is important is because it helps express our emotions and makes us feel better.”
Glover is the last student to receive a specialization in Art Therapy from the Art and Design Department at Benedictine College.
She wants to have her own practice in therapy and attend grad school.
Glover said “Art Therapy is a way to help others express themselves and navigate through traumatic experiences.”
Glover said “in order to do art, you have to notice things more, as artists see the world differently through beauty, truth, and understanding of God. To be an artist, you need to love God’s creation.”
Glover said that “art is very meaningful because it is a way to express non-verbal messages, to find the meaning of beauty in others, including the world. It is a way where anyone can connect on a deeper level.”
She started doing art how most people do, at a young age.
During Christmas time Glover was given a sketch book from her secret Santa as a kid.
That day she didn’t just get a sketchbook for a gift, she was given the gift of art.
Glover says “God created us and gave us the ability to create, we should honor his love by also creating.”
Glover said “art can help us see the humanity in others, if we can create more art, it will help us see the value in others.”
Art expresses our journey and personal challenges which helps us connect with everyone.
Art is like a therapeutic superpower for creating love for each other and understanding.
It is a love language that everyone has, to share our experiences, to create a better world.
