The Center for Catholic Media screened Broken Mary: The Kevin Matthews Story on March 17, 2026, in the Murphy-McPhee Auditorium in Westerman Hall.
There were 17 people in attendance, including Michael Coy from the Center for Catholic Media.
The 95-minute documentary film was released in theaters on Oct. 7, 2025. It tells the story of Kevin Matthews and his life as a radio host, stand-up comedian and eventually, evangelist and Catholic speaker.
Matthews said his life changed after a divine encounter with God when he found a broken statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary in a dumpster. He had the statue restored but left her without hands and with a visible crack, seeing it as a symbol of hope, healing and renewal amidst our own brokenness and suffering.

Following the screening, Matthews and the producer, Eric Groth, participated in a Q&A, where they offered insight on the production and timeline of the film. Matthews shared that the premiere date for the film unintentionally coincided with a Marian feast day, the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.
“God is real,” he said. “There is no coincidence.”
Additionally, he shared how the statue of Mary was blessed by Pope Leo XIV with the title “Our Lady of the Broken” on the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, Feb. 11, 2026.
Matthews continues to travel all over the U.S. with the statue of Broken Mary, visiting numerous churches, college campuses and communities. He shares a message of hope and healing, saying, “We are all broken, but we are loved by God.”
Matthews’ book, Broken Mary: A Journey of Hope, was also available for purchase at the event.
