On Saint Joseph’s feast day, an important one for Benedictine College students, Devin Schadt came to Benedictine College and spoke in front of 50 students at the Murphy-McPhee auditorium in Westerman Hall.
His talk was centered on attributes of Saint Joseph, in line with the feast day, and how relationships are impacted by modern issues.
Devin discussed his faith journey, and how it impacted his relationships, as well as how his relationships impacted it.
He than went through four major attributes of Saint Joseph, talking about his persevering heart, his obedience, his secrecy, and his receptiveness.
Devin also talked about how Saint Joseph modeled fatherhood in his own life, and how he applied it.
His talk was not focused solely on men either; many of his points could be applied to both men and women.
Elianna Watson, a senior at Benedictine College, noted this, saying, “I enjoyed how Devin made his talk applicable to his entire audience, not just the men in the room.”
“By breaking down the different attributes of St. Joseph, I was able to understand his role and his life a lot better,” she concluded.
Devin also discussed a lot about identity, and how the world doesn’t dictate what your identity is.
He says “Your identity, if you are a women, is a daughter of God the Father. If you are a man, you are a son of God the Father.”
“We believe that God the Father has chosen you, me, desires us, and wants the good for us,” he continued.
Devin made the point that no matter what mistakes we make, we are still the children of God.
Watson notes “My favorite part of his talk was when he said that God wants us to embrace our insufficiency. We must remember that He is God, and our littleness reminds us of that.”
Saint Joseph, pray for us.
