Benedictine College held its first pop-up Christmas market on Saturday, December 6, from 3-5 p.m. outside Haverty Center.
Benedictine students set up their small businesses and sell whatever they want, from clothes to handmade jewelry to pizzas in the market.
Despite the cold weather, Haverty Circle was full of Christmas cheer, holiday goodies, and Catholic merchandise.
There were over a dozen student booths at the market. Some students even combined booths with friends, making one big table full of goodies.
Maggie Heckman, Gabby Dawes, and Caroline Cunningham had a combined table. Together they sold bracelets, handmade rosaries, and original artwork.
Heckman and her friend, Mira, make rosaries together, and when deciding to set up shop to sell them, she asked her roommate if she wanted to sell her creations as well.

After some more asking, her whole apartment joined together to sell what they each had made.
“A lot of these are original works that I have had since my sophomore year of college, so I just had them in storage, and I wanted to move them. I also have a bunch of playing cards that I designed in Graphic Design.” Dawes said.
Gabe Jones, another vendor at the Pop-up Christmas Market, sold various types of plants such as mints, succulents, and more.
A unique feature about the plants he sold was that each individual plant had a name.
Jones ran his shop as an “adoption day” for these plants. Anyone who purchased a plant would write their name on the back of the plant’s name tag and then stick the name tag on the chalkboard by the booth to showcase which plants were adopted.
“I used to be really bad with plants, and I killed four plants a couple of years ago. This year, I had some plants in my house, I kept them alive, and was like, you know, more people need plants in their house, and so I started Gabe’s plants and today’s adoption day,” he said
According to @gabes_plants, over 30 plants were adopted at the market.
In just two short hours, many students, just like Jones, got to experience a very successful day.
