You may be wondering what this year’s theme of the Loomings magazine means. “Sonder” is the realization that each person or passerby is living a life as complex as your own.
The Loomings magazine is a collage of artwork or stories/poems, pieced together by various art students, where they release their work once a year.
The release party started on Monday, April 20, 2026, at 4 p.m. and ended at 5 p.m. It was a gathering of students sharing their work in a warm pleasant atmosphere.
This is Sabrina Vizurraga’s first year serving as an editor. Before serving as the General Editor, her prose was published in Loomings in the 2023 and 2024 editions.
“There are three awards for written works, and two awards for prose. One goes to lower classmen, and the other goes to upper classmen. Poetry awards,” Vizurraga said.
The awards went to three students: Henry Burns, for the Patricia Hattendorf Nerney Poetry Writing Award with the “Rolled Oats” story. Emma Keenan, for the Sister Scholastica Schuster Prose writing award, for the “The Face of the Box” story. Lastly the Thomas Ross Award for a Promising Young Writer went to Audrey Kirwan for “The Edge of Mercy” story.
“It’s been a really beautiful process to collaborate with my peers and create a piece of magazine that elevates art, whether that is visual or written art,” Vizurraga said.
Art is one way that can bring a community together in harmony.
“I think art should be done in the community and be appreciated in the community. It’s been a really special process,” Vizurraga said.
There are two notable layout Editors, Antonia Smith, and Anya Valladares who put in hard work in structuring the magazine.
Most of the work goes to the editors, catching errors, doing the layout, and advocating certain pieces. The rest of the work goes to the contributions of the students, who do the artwork and upload the pictures or stories.

Vizurraga organized the launch party and other events for the Loomings. All run by Michael Stigman, Faculty Advisor.
