Several Missions and Catholic Organizations came to recruit Benedictine College students during its annual Missions and Career fair on November 5th and 6th in Saint John Paul II Student Center.
The event was organized through the collaborative efforts of Campus Ministry and Career Services.
Campus Ministry invites different organizations that align with the college’s mission to come and table and arrange for organizations who have expressed interest in advertising their organization to come and table at this event.
Catholic mission organizations, schools, and summer camps from across the country sent representatives to recruit interested students.
These groups included Lifeteen, Seton Teaching Fellows, Totus Tuus, Camp Our Lady of Guadalupe and more.
Some of these representatives were Benedictine alumni.
Katie Brandenburg was one of them, representing the Seton Teaching Fellows.
Seton Teaching Fellows are a mission group not just for people who want to teach but also for people who want to serve underprivileged children especially in places where Catholic Schools no longer exist.
“It is good to be back. It’s been so great, I got to see some familiar faces.” Brandenburg said
Another representing group was Kinship Community Food Center.
Kinship is a food pantry in Miluake that not only gives out free food to those in need, but also offers a workforce development program, while also sending missionaries out to lead a deep community prayer and service life together.
Samantha Vosters was the representative for Kinship.
“It’s really lovely when a lot of recruiting can be in the flesh to meet people and discover their interests. I’ve come four times and it’s always encouraging, the students are really encouraging and inspiring. It’s a reminder of my time in college.”- Vosters said.
This event brought great results to the represented organizations.
Patricia Oliver, associate director of the Benedicitne College Campus Ministry and Coordinator of Youth outreach.
“One thing that we’ve heard from the groups that come is that there is no other college or university that does something like this for them.” Oliver said.
This type of event is one that is unique to Benedictine as opposed to other Catholic colleges and universities. This creates a special atmosphere for students to find job and internship opportunities they otherwise would not have and helps pave the way for the future of the students.
