Benedictine College students were invited to an all-campus Holy Hour in the Guadalupe Chapel in the Abbey Crypt on Thursday, Feb. 5, at 8 pm. The Holy Hour was led by Fr. Ryan and included an alternation between praise and worship music and silence. Confession was not originally planned but was made available due to high student interest.
The purpose of the Holy Hour is to spend time with the Lord in prayer and worship and is described as a “mini retreat” by Caroline Cunningham, BC Acts Team coordinator for campus ministry. According to the Benedictine College website, Acts “exists to create encounters on campus for our college students to meet the Lord in a new and radical way”.
Cunningham said the Holy Hour provides students with an opportunity to step away from classes and spend time worshiping Christ. “We are called to be sacramental people who worship Christ, so I think it’s important to spend that time in prayer”, she said. Cuningham also encouraged students to quiet their hearts, let go of distractions and “recognize that the time for the Holy Hour is a time for you and God to talk to one another.” She said the campus ministry’s goal is to reach students with the Gospel and build community by inviting the entire campus to participate in the Holy Hour.
