Among Benedictine College’s many resources bolstering student success is the Writing Center, located in the Student Success Center, offering one-on-one tutoring assistance as well as workshops and creativity nights.
The Writing Center is designed to help students produce their best work, offering assistance with brainstorming, outlining, revising, and anything else in between.
“The Writing Center is a resource for writers at any stage of their assignment,” Daniel Bergman, a junior history and computer science major and second-year tutor said. “They can come in at any point in the process, whether it be brainstorming for an assignment they haven’t even started, or editing a paper they’ve already finished, and find help in the forms of experienced tutors who are passionate about writing and sharing their knowledge with other students.”
“It’s easy to get involved—all you have to do is come ready to write!” Bergman said. “Students can schedule an appointment with a tutor from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Friday, or walk in from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. with no appointment.”
Appointments can be scheduled through the student Navigate portal.
In addition to one one-on-one appointments, the writing center offers events geared toward helping students practice and expand their creativity by writing. This is done through offering workshops in MLA, APA and Chicago citation styles to hosting an open mic night and a creative writing night.
“The writing center offers multiple events every semester, geared towards teaching students important material that they might not learn in their classes, or giving them opportunities to expand their creativity through writing and set aside time for writing,” Bergman said. “Be open to learning and improving your writing skills. Writing isn’t just about finishing the assignment—it’s about growing and expanding your abilities over time!”
