Once a year, typically around Valentine’s Day, there’s a spectacular dance with parents and students.
Benedictine administrators strung together 800 people for a lively evening, which is a favorite family tradition that happens at the Murphy Recreation Center.
The dance started at 8:15 p.m. and this year’s theme was Red Rocky’s Carpet to make it more elegant and magical. The students brought their parents to the banquet and they danced the night away.
The gym was transformed into a ballroom of excitement, joy, and memories that would be cherished for a lifetime to come.
There was a long line of eager people waiting to capture their memories in the photo booth area.
Balloons were poured out of a champagne bottle and a clapperboard with a live band that played beautiful music in the background just like a movie scene.
Catherine Kluempers is the head organizer for the dance, and is on the Campus Board.
Under the Campus Board there are Committees that bring events to life.
They set up the catering for food, the decorations, and the planning.
The helpers were volunteer students, they didn’t get paid, however their joy was received from watching the work come to life.
Once a week they have worked for an hour on the Committee since January.
Maggie Menghini who is a senior, and Marah Becks who is a sophomore were a couple of helpers at the dance.
Both volunteers put it this way: “ it takes part of the whole campus, everyone to make it happen,” Menghini and Becks said.
It took a lot more student volunteers and extra work, but everyone that helped made this night memorable.
“It was fun to see everyone at the dance,” Becks said, and “When everyone shows up it makes it worth it.” Menghini said.
According to both of these students, Shana Vaughn was in charge of decorating the banquet, using many fabrics, lights, balloons, and a backdrop, that made this wonderful night a success through Kluempers.
