On Monday, Feb. 16, sisters from several religious communities in and around the Kansas City, Missouri area gathered to offer soup and fellowship to Benedictine College women.
The event was held in the Elizabeth Hall Lounge.
The participating congregations included the Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, the Servants of Mary Ministers to the Sick, the Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George, the Sisters Missionaries Servants of the Word, the Little Sisters Disciples of the Lamb, the School Sisters of Christ the King and the Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Eucharist.
Students were served chicken soup and sausage kale soup. It was emphasized that both soups were gluten and dairy-free, making them accessible to all attendees.
Mandarins, crackers and bread rolls were also available.
The event was open to any woman who wanted to speak with a religious sister, was discerning religious life or simply wanted to spend time in fellowship.
Miriam Kramer, an English major who is not discerning religious life, said she attended for fun.
“I love hanging out with the sisters, and they’re just soaking up all that grace. It was such a good experience,” Kramer said.
Hannah Morais, a sophomore studying theology and evangelization with a Spanish minor, also described the event as a warm experience.

“Last night, it was a blessing to be able to sit with Sister Nancy and hear about her charism in her life. I think her order, the Benedictines of Perpetual Adoration, have a beautiful lifestyle,” Morais said. “And even if those of us who are talking to her aren’t called to that life, it’s still a beautiful thing to be able to hear about it and to interact with them.”
