Students from around Benedictine College, both artists and non-artists alike, gathered for the Annual Student Art Show in Bishop Fink Hall on Feb. 20.
The roughly 30 students that attended came from various backgrounds, with some having art featured, and other simply interested in the art.
Many different mediums of art were featured, ranging between oil on canvas paintings, to sculptures, to photographs.
Immediately on walking in, it was apparent that there was a plethora of skill featured. The room setup aided in allowing one to move around as desired, with ample time to take in the presented art.
Shortly after opening, the opening ceremony began, awarding artists in different categories, before allowing the students to continue to view the art.
Reactions to the event were positive for both artists and non-artists alike. Several different pieces stuck out. Madeline Cassidy, a senior at Benedictine College, noted “From my memory, I really liked the black and white paintings in the left back corner, and I also liked the black and white photograph of the crucifix.”
Some students showcase their art to show what they’re capable of. Ashley Brockmann, who had a featured photograph at the event, said “Post graduation, I hope to do photography full-time, or at least just freelance on the side. Showing off my work can help, so people can know me around campus as a photographer.”
When asked about the benefits that an art show can have, Cassidy noted “Having art shows can inspire others to be brave to try something new. It also encouraged me to have better time management because I could not believe how some people were able to do some of these pieces with the little time college students have.”
