You may have heard them around campus and noticed them in the streets. But have you ever wondered what the Student Government Association (SGA) does to serve the students of Benedictine College (BC) in their own unique way? All year long, the senators, the Chair committees, and members of their executive board work to ensure that the voices of BC students are heard, while organizing events to bring unity and festivities to campus. Looking back on the Fall 2025 semester, SGA accomplished many of its goals while upholding BC tradition.
One Monday of every month, members of SGA greet students at the top of the Raven Walk to hand out coffee, donuts, and burritos. After trudging up Raven Walk on a Monday morning, nothing beats being greeted with the excitement of Joe Halfman offering you a donut and a hot cup of coffee. Motivational Monday has been around since I was a freshman, and it was a tradition long before then.
In October, SGA hosted its annual Fall Festival, organized by Maddie Cassidy (senior). The evening offered students the opportunity to stand on stage and showcase their musical talent. Donuts and hot apple cider were served, and the beer garden was busy. Cornhole and pumpkin bowling kept the evening entertained. The Ravens Respect Life led a fundraising opportunity: those willing to donate to the pro-life cause could vote on a member of the SGA Executive Board to get a pie in the face! RIP Dante Bullara (Director of Clubs).
Not only does SGA organize events and Motivational Monday, but they also attend to the needs and requests of the students. Recently, Landon Reffit, Dining Services Chairman, has been collaborating with his committee to reintroduce omelets to the Dining Hall. They are also working to make options more allergy-friendly by offering cauliflower-crust pizza. Jude Healey, the Campus Development Chairman, has been collaborating with his committee to provide new gym accessories. There will also be a new water bottle station on the 2nd floor of FAC next semester.
Alison Simpson, Communications Chairwoman, has been coordinating with her committee to create informative posters, parking-related graphics, and to help promote events. They have been sharing engaging content on social media and are excited to continue posting more material throughout the rest of the school year. “This is my second year serving on SGA. It has been an absolute blessing.” Alison said, “Everyone has been hard at work making positive changes around campus.”
The Executive Board, Michael Argana (President), Elizabeth Humburg (Vice President), Joey Lyngdal (Treasurer), Sam Bartoszek (Director of Communications), and Dante Bullara (Director of Clubs) have worked throughout the semester to guide SGA. Their leadership has fostered a community where all senators and Chair committees can thrive and share their unique gifts and talents.
