In less than 140 days The World Cup, one of the biggest sporting events aside from the
Olympics will come to Kansas City. Kansas City is going to be a host city for the 2026 FIFA
World Cup, with matches at Arrowhead Stadium, including group stage games and a
quarterfinal, bringing international teams like Argentina and the Netherlands, along with fan
bases, to the metro area.
In the last decade Kansas City has become a city full of life, full of sports fans due to the
three superbowls won by the Chiefs. The city is preparing for a huge amount of fans with
multiple transportation options, increased lodging, and expected team base camps solidifying its
role as a central hub for the tournament.
The World Cup coming to Kansas City (KC) will bring so much to the community, as
well as bringing in major amounts of foot traffic which will provide a great economic boost to
the city. “We think the World Cup global spotlight on Kansas City will be like nothing we’ve
ever seen before, and to be able to welcome people here is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get
it right,” said President of Visit KC Kathy Nelson.
Through all of this Kansas City will get the spotlight on the world stage, bringing a new
importance to the city, and another thing for the community to be proud of. KC already has a
strong soccer presence with franchises like the KC Current, and Sporting KC. The World Cup
will bring a new found inspiration to young athletes looking to make it to the big leagues
