Fox & Co. Apothecary is a French aesthetic café that recently opened in Atchison, KS. Words of the new café reached the ears of Benedictine College students, and curiosity quickly emerged. Could this be a new space to study?
One Saturday morning, I was invited for a coffee and a reading date at Fox & Co. Apothecary by one of my dearest friends. Hearing about the French aesthetic intrigued me. I had spent over half the past summer in France and visited many French cafés, so I wondered if Fox & Co. Apothecary would resemble any of them.
I entered Fox & Co. Apothecary and was greeted by a warm aroma of coffee, a variety of fragrances, and the sounds of French music.
Oui, ça sentait bon!
I scanned the room, looking for my friend, and found her sitting in the chairs toward the back. I recognized some faces at other tables as I made my way toward her. This place was already becoming familiar to the town.
I scanned the menu, and the rosemary caramel latte caught my eye. Hearing the French café music brought me back to the days I spent in Paris.
“I will take the rosemary caramel latte and un chocolat croissant.”
“I’m sorry, what was the last part?”
I was embarrassed to realize the little settlement of French was kicking in. Sad to say, they were out of croissants. I sat with my friend with my coffee in hand and took a sip of the aromatic beverage. The flavors were new to me, but surprisingly worked together. The lid had a dollop of whipped cream with a chocolate-covered coffee bean. “They want to test out my French-kissing skills,” I jokingly told my friend.
I took brief breaks from reading Mansfield Park and observed the room. It was open but cozy. Almost every seat was full, but there was enough room for everyone. I could hear voices, but not the contents of conversations. The gothic vintage style was unique but not disturbing.
I then ordered un crêpe avec le Nutella et de la banane for lunch. It was thin, warm, fluffy, and rich. It was not exactly what I used to, but it was still delicious. Prices are reasonable, and they have a wide selection of coffee, light refreshments, and cuisine. They also sell a wide range of merchandise such as candles, body oils, and a small selection of organic groceries. It is a place where everyone should visit with a friend or a place to study.
Altogether, Fox & Co. Apothecary enriches Atchison with its blend of French charm, quality offerings, and inviting ambiance.
