Benedictine College Pro-Life Club Branches Out From Typical Prayer Trips Ravens Respect Life, the Pro-Life Club at Benedictine College, concluded Respect Life Week with a trip to St. Mary’s Home for Mothers.
St. Mary’s is an organization serving mothers in Liberty, Missouri, providing resources, housing, and transportation for parenting and pregnant mothers in need. This trip differs from the prayer trips to Planned Parenthood that the Pro-Life Club usually takes.
Ravens Respect Life Supportive Services Officer, Grace Hartsock, said it can be difficult for college students to find ways to support struggling mothers.
“It’s easy to go pray, to go on the March for Life,” Hartsock said, “But being a support to moms is often overlooked because it’s such a big task.”
When Hartsock found a feasible way for college students to support mothers, she jumped at the opportunity. After attending her first trip last year, she wanted to make it happen again.
“I was super determined to do it again this year,” she said.
Bridget Wieland, a Junior at Benedictine College, also attended the first Ravens Respect Life trip to St. Mary’s and expressed similar thoughts. She couldn’t choose which trip she liked better.
“They’re hard to compare because they’re so different,” Wieland said.
“The Planned Parenthood trip is about saving children whose mothers want to abort them, but at St. Mary’s, we’re helping the mothers who choose to have their babies. Both are super important,” she said.
Because St. Mary’s provides this opportunity to serve mothers in need, Ravens Respect Life hopes to make these trips a regular occurrence.
“Stay tuned for future events,” Hartsock said. “Maybe in a couple weeks, maybe in a month, we’ll see.”
