Intramural women’s flag football is starting up again and it has brought with it a lot more people and a lot more excitement.
The director of Recreational Services and Assistant Sports Information, Adam Garner, has worked here since 2018 and women’s flag football had already been established.
“Women’s Flag Football started before I worked here and I’ve continued to offer it each year since and we have averaged about 5-6 teams in the Women’s League,” Adam said.
Even though they have only been advertising it in the FYI’s, which is a weekly email to the whole school informing them what is happening for the next week, there are still around the same number of teams, but there are a lot more girls on each team as well as people in the community excited to go watch.
“I did not play last year because it was much smaller and less people were playing,” said Rose Coughlin, a sophomore at Benedictine on team KART.
Guys can coach the flag football teams which involve the guys at Benedictine and get them excited for the season.
One of the coaches for team Kart, Trey Smith, discussed the positive feedback from past flag football players “I think the girls who have played in the past have talked about how much they enjoyed it and now other girls want to try,” said Trey Smith.
Players, coaches and fans are looking forward to the intramurals to start and to watch friends enjoy a fun sport.
There are other teams as well like Beauty and the Blitz. Mari Timler, who is on team Beauty and the Blitz, is looking forward to the comradery that will come from the team.
“The biggest thing I can bring to the team is my cheerleading capabilities and my enthusiasm for the sport,” Timler said.
All these teams will be having fun and competing together this fall on the soccer fields at Benedictine.
“I am looking forward to winning every game this season through outstanding coaching and good team chemistry,” Smith said.
