Benedictine College hosts the 2020 Heart of America Wrestling Championship this weekend. The host team has an overall record of 4-6 this season but still has high hopes going into the competition.
Head Coach Marcus Cobbs feels good about his team this season so far. He admits they are a young team with only one senior in the lineup.
“To see the growth from these young men was amazing. Wrestling is a tough sport, so for them to get through this sport from September to March was amazing alone,” Cobbs said. “I think they have a lot of growth and potential still to come.”
Cobbs also believes the home advantage will allow the team to arrive on the mats more comfortable and confident.
“We’re going up against a pretty good conference. These guys know we have nothing to lose,” Cobbs stated.
Keenan Graef, junior, is excited about the opportunity of the Championship tournament being hosted at home.
“This weekend is what we’ve been training for since September so I’m ready to give it my all and leave it all on the mat. My body feels good and ready to take it to the competition,” Graef said.
The Tournament begins at 9 a.m. at the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium. Admission will be $10 for general admission and $5 for visiting students.
