Fourth-ranked Benedictine football opened this week against No. 3 Morningside in the NAIA’s Matchup of the Week.
A tough challenge for the Ravens, the game was a close back-and-forth battle, eventually leading to the Ravens’ victory. The game held a special new announcement during the first quarter, as one current player was named the Pieper Award. The award is given to an athlete who represents consistency, hard work, drive, and leadership, honoring Jeff Pieper, who died in March 2025.
Pieper was a quarterback from the class of 1985. He had led the team to an undefeated season with his leadership and grit, earning the respect of his teammates through hard work and long hours with his team. He led others through tough situations, staying calm and with his level head. The award was created by his friends and teammates who attend the game and presented the award to Tanner Zimmerman.
A senior from Olathe West High School, Zimmerman has been named on the All-American and All-Conference lists.
“I am very thankful and honored to win the award,” Zimmerman said. “It means a lot to me. I love this team and to be the first to be awarded the Pieper Award. I am very thankful for it.”
