Over spring break, dozens of Benedictine students embarked on mission trips to several places around the world.
Cecilia Howell said her mission trip team went to Mexico to provide medical care to the local people. Each day the team went to different “ranchos,” or towns, and set up a clinic for patients in that area who otherwise would not have access to healthcare.
“You will never regret going on a mission trip. Every mission trip you go on, you will get such an amazing, lifegiving experience,” Howell said.
Sam Verdoni and his mission trip team went to Denver, Colorado through an outreach group called Christ in the City. He and his team spent the week on a street mission encountering and creating friendships with the homeless, homebound, and isolated. Their primary mission was to heal loneliness. The overall mission was giving of themselves, not just to those they served, but to each other as well.
Outside the city, they spent time in prayer and building community among the team. They had daily Mass, Adoration, Liturgy of the Hours, and prayed a special kind of rosary called the “Thanksgiving Rosary” together. This stems from Christ in the City’s mission of being formed in a lifelong mission of love.
Verdoni said, “It’s that relational mindset I left with; the greatest thing we can do is love one another in relationship, and you always have the capacity to do that.”
