The Lady Ravens Soccer team has started off the 2021-22 season with an 8-3 record. The team is currently ranked 22 in the nation and 5 in the conference standings.
Notable wins for the Ravens include blowout wins against Missouri Baptist and Bethel College, as well as an in-conference overtime thriller against Culver-Stockton. The Ravens only two losses in the season come from other teams within the top 25 by a goal each. Senior captain Olivia Berry hopes the team will learn from these losses.
“That’s going to be a big component for us, staying together through adversity, you can gain more from a loss than a win,” Berry said.
Three seniors graduated from the team last season, but according to senior and Captain Gracie Eckardt, the team has several new faces taking on extended roles.
“The chemistry this year, I feel like, is off the charts, we’ve had a lot of new faces, freshmen and sophomores, that have stepped up,” Eckardt said.
Eight of eleven games played this season have been at Legacy Field. Head Coach Lincoln Roblee believes this is important.
“Anytime we can play in front of our friends and family, huge bonus,” Roblee said. “Not only is it an advantage we have, I think the other schools are a little bit jealous.”
The team will travel more the latter half of the season, as only two of their final six games outside of the conference tournament will be played at home. Berry explained how the team looks to highlight its diverse skill set and get better at every performance.
“We have some really tough opponents coming up, our conference has a lot of really good teams. Every day we must focus on getting better at practice and getting closer as a team. Ultimately when you win off the field, you win on the field,” Berry said.
The Lady Ravens Soccer team resumes action on the road for the next three games. They return to Legacy Field on Homecoming weekend to take on Graceland on October 23 at 5 p.m.
