The Ravens go on the road this weekend against a much improved Culver-Stockton Wildcats team.
Last week, Benedictine dismantled newly formed football team Clarke Pride 73-14. Senior Marquis Stewart finished with 153 yards adding three touchdowns. The passing attack finally found the end zone for the first time this season. Senior Shaefer Shuetz passed to fellow senior Logan Harris for the 32 yard touchdown to push the score to 40-7. The Ravens would coast to victory the rest of the way.
This week against the Wildcats, the defense will need to slow the best passing attack in the NAIA. This is the first true test for the Ravens this season.
The Opponent
Culver-Stockton is coached by Tom Sallay. Sallay is in his third season with the Wildcats possessing a 17-19 record along with a winless record against the Ravens.
Culver Stockton has a 2-2 record this season losing to ranked opponents, #8 Baker and #14 Evangel. The Wildcats lost to Evangel 16-14 last weekend. Culver-Stockton had the opportunity to win the game on a last second 46 yard field goal, but the snap was too high and the hold was fumbled. Evangel would recover and avoid the upset from the the Wildcats.
The Wildcats will maintain underdog status as they try to upset the Ravens. Junior quarterback Korbin Marcum is the leading yardage passer in the NAIA with 1,269 yards total in only four games. Marcum broke a Culver-Stockton record against Evangel for having the most passing attempts in a single game. Marcum threw 66 times.
Marcum will use his two athletic wide receivers to try and beat the Raven secondary. Junior Connor Perrine and junior Brody Hassel have close to identical statistics for the Wildcats. Marcum, Perrine and Hassel are primed to put up big chunk plays in the passing attack if the Ravens fall asleep.
On defense, the Wildcats are anchored by junior Dalton Huffman. Huffman has the most total tackles, tackles for loss and sacks on the whole team. He will be needed to defeat the number one ranked rushing offense in the NAIA.
The Ravens will have their toughest test of the season as two of the most prolific offenses so far hit the field. The number one rushing offense in the Ravens and the Wildcats number one passing offense will make this game a must see.
#4 QB Korbin Marcum- 1269 total yds passing; 317 yds/g passing; 11 TDs; 4 INTs
#19 WR Brody Hassel- 77 yds/g receiving; 4 TDs
#3 WR Connor Perrine- 76 yds/g receiving; 6 TDs
