The Benedictine College football team took on Bethany College and finished just one-point shy of setting a new point record for a single game in Benedictine history.
After the final buzzer sounded, the Ravens secured a dominant season opening victory 75-7 over Bethany College. A single game point record for Benedictine is 76 points which was set last year against Central Methodist University.
Offensively, the Ravens were soaring high as they finished with 565 total yards of offense. The running game saw several different rushers put up a combined 290 yards. As through the air the Ravens put up 275 yards.
The Ravens’ leading rusher, Charlie Nihart finished the contest with 88 yards and two touchdowns. Running Back KJ Hart added in his own 61 yards on the ground, while Running Back Jacob Avery added in another 50 yards and his one touchdown.
Quarterback Shaefer Schuetz finished the day 14-18 on pass attempts, throwing for 206 yards and five touchdowns. Backup Quarterback Zach Hammond added in his own two touchdowns after coming in for Schuetz. Hammond finished 3-5 in pass attempts throwing for 69 yards.
The leading receiver for Benedictine, Aaron Jackson finished the day with four receptions for 85 yards and two touchdowns. Tanner McClaran also finished the game with two receiving touchdowns. While Logan Soto, Charlie Nihart, and Carl Hecht each had one receiving touchdown apiece.
Defensively for the Ravens, they held Bethany to only 145 total yards for the game. Bethany only finished the game with eight first downs.
Tyler Thrasher had the only interception for the Ravens while also contributing for a sack. Dante Edwards contributed for one sack, while also having one solo sack.
The Ravens will take on Missouri Valley College on the road on September first.
