The Heart of America Athletic Conference has accepted Mount Mercy University and Clarke University’s bids to join the conference, according to a source.

The Heart Council of President’s voted in the two Iowa institutions Wednesday.

As the conference awaits Grand View University and William Penn University to begin competition next year, the now 12-member conference will soon make the jump to 14 institutions.

The recent interest in joining the Heart doesn’t come as a surprise.

Grand View and William Penn and now Mount Mercy and Clarke are departing the depleting Midwest Collegiate Conference, which also loses AIB School of Business after this year as they are closing its doors in June.

The Midwest Conference is left with Viterbo University (Wisc.) as the only remaining school.

Graceland University (Lamoni) was the lone Iowa school prior to Grand View (Des Moines), William Penn (Oskaloosa), Mount Mercy (Cedar Rapids) and Clarke (Dubuque) being accepted into the growing conference.

The Heart will put out an official release tomorrow, the source added.
