Poetry allows one alumna to fly home for the weekend.

LeighAnna Schesser will be performing poetry from her first book,"Heartland".
LeighAnna Schesser will be performing poetry from her first book,”Heartland” at 4 p.m. Thursday Nov. 4 in the Gangel Seminar Room of the Ferrell Academic Center.

LeighAnna Schesser, BC English alumna and published poet will present from her work, “Heartland” on Thursday, Nov. 3, at 4 p.m. in the Gangel Seminar Room of the Ferrell Academic Center.

Wishing to share her work with the college, Schesser contacted Dr. Michael Stigman, Associate Professor of English and one of her former teachers.

Stigman was unsurprised when Schesser eventually published her works. “She had a really strong interest in words and the sound of words in poetry.”

With a B.A. from Benedictine and an M.F.A. from North Carolina State University, Schesser wants to use the upcoming reading to share her experiences of being a Catholic to her role as a wife and mother.

“I think the wider range of these experiences the better. Students should be made aware of the work they are doing here at BC and the work beyond,” commented Stigman on the importance of the event.

The event is free for all who wish to attend and refreshments will be provided.
