Benedictine may switch up the way posters are managed on campus. Next semester, SGA could eliminate the use of posters taped around school to keep the campus informed about a wide range of issues and activities.
Any final decisions to be made will most likely not be enforced until the fall of 2010.
A new plan involving the use of an SGA website for promotional purposes is being developed. Launch date for the new plan is being considered for next semester.
The new plan centers on a website designed to keep students, faculty and staff updated about campus events, even if they are off campus. The site might also be useful to students and others who want to keep up with campus news during vacations and breaks.
“Students are pretty much unaware of the website idea,” said Anastasia Willy, sophomore class secretary and SGA’s new director of communications. “But we’re going to talk about ways we can promote it and set it on fire.”
SGA got the idea of possibly limiting poster use to increase the site’s usage and make BC’s campus a little more orderly, Willy said.
The Daily Jolt, as the site will be called, will be intended to help with the orderliness around campus. SGA members hope it will also get news to more teachers and students who live off campus, and will allow them to keep up with campus news over vacations and breaks.
SGA Executive President Patrick Helling said the proposed shift from posters to online promotion would be a gradual one.
“As the website gets more traffic there will be less posters on campus,” he said. “The future of this website will be up to next year's SGA.”
