Two NAIA institutions have recently put in bids to join the Heart of America Athletic Conference, The Circuit learned Tuesday.
As the conference awaits Grand View University and William Penn University to begin competition next year, the now 12-member conference will need to consider a couple more.
The Heart Council of Presidents will vote on the undisclosed bids Wednesday.
The recent interest in joining the Heart doesn’t come as a surprise.
Grand View (Iowa) and William Penn (Iowa) are departing the depleting Midwest Collegiate Conference, which will also lose AIB School of Business after this year, as the private Iowa institution is closing its doors.
The Midwest Conference is now down to four schools, three of which are based in Iowa – Mount Mercy University, St. Ambrose University, Clarke University, Viterbo University (Wisc.).
The Heart is making the jump to be a 12-school conference next year, so adding two more institutions in the picture may be a tough sell.
